Five-Day Workshop on Health Promotion & Communication and Social Behavior Change (SBC)

Majuro, MH – August 29, 2025: A five-day intensive workshop on Health Promotion & Communication and Social Behavior Change (SBC) was successfully conducted from August 25 to 29, 2025, at the Marshall Islands Resort, Tulok in Al. The workshop was designed for health staff focusing on Health Promotion, Communication and Social Behavior Change to strengthen and encourage transparent health communications as well as designing and implementing effective health communication strategies that influence positive behavior change.

Other ministries and offices were invited as well to join on this opportunity.

Organized by UNICEF and the Ministry of Health and Human Services - the workshop focused on equipping participants with practical tools and theoretical knowledge on topics such as foundations of Health Promotion and Social Behavior Change, Understanding Communities through Deep Listening and Insights Gathering, Translating community Insights into strategic SBS Campaigns in both routine and crisis settings, and more.

Facilitated by international experts in public health communication, the sessions included interactive lectures, group work, real-life case studies, and hands-on exercises. Special emphasis was placed on addressing current public health challenges such as vaccine hesitancy, maternal and child health, and non-communicable diseases through culturally sensitive and community-based approaches.

We want to extend our deepest appreciation and gratitude to our facilitators Aishwarya Shashi Kumar, Doris Lam, and Pius Attandoh who led an engaging, interactive, and informative workshop. We also want to thank UNICEF for their neverending collaboration and support.

Participants were awarded certificates of completion on the final day and expressed enthusiasm for applying the new skills in their respective work environments.

This workshop marks another step forward in enhancing local capacities to promote healthier communities through informed and inclusive communication strategies.
