PRESS RELEASE
Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD)
Majuro, MH - August 18th to 22nd, 2025: The Ministry of Culture and Internal Affairs collaborate with the Pacific Disability Forum and UNICEF conducted a five days workshop on the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD) under the project of United Nations Partnership on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UNPRPD).
The UNPRPD project is being implemented across ten Pacific countries, including the Marshall Islands, with the objective of strengthening disability rights and inclusion through capacity building, situational analysis, and policy development. The RMI government supports the efforts toward Convention on the RIGHTS of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD) implementation through enhanced understanding and capacity of key stakeholders.
Representing the Ministry of Health and Human Services were Physical Therapy/Diabetes Footcare Technician Edward Konelius and Non-Communicable Disease (NCD) Nurse Supervisor Yitha Bobo. Their participation in this crucial workshop underscored the Ministry’s commitment to inclusive healthcare services and the promotion of equal rights for persons with disabilities.
The workshop covered critical areas including advancing CRPD implementation, equality and non discrimination, accessibility, disability assessment and referral, and more. Through interactive sessions and expert presentations, attendees explored practical strategies to enhance the inclusion and well-being of persons with disabilities within their respective sectors.
The Ministry commends the efforts of the organizers and remains dedicated to advancing disability-inclusive policies and services in alignment with the CRPD.
