PACIFIC ISLAND HEALTH OFFICERS ASSOCIATION (PIHOA) FACILITATES GRANT MANAGEMENT TRAINING FOR MINISTRY OF HEALTH MANAGEMENT


19 March 2024 – The Pacific Island Health Officers Association (PIHOA) is pleased to announce the successful completion of a Grant Management Training session for Ministry of Health Management officials, facilitated by consultant Mr. Robert Gebauer. The two-day training, held on March 18th and 19th, 2024, aimed to enhance the capacity of Ministry of Health staff in effectively managing grants to support health programs across the Pacific region.

During the training, participants engaged in a series of interactive sessions designed to strengthen their understanding of grant management processes and best practices. Key activities included:
Mapping out the Current Grant Management Process: Participants worked collaboratively to map out the existing grant management processes for each health program, identifying internal workflows and stakeholders involved in the process.

Introducing Stakeholders and Understanding Requirements: The training provided an opportunity for participants to familiarize themselves with all players involved in the grant management process, including internal staff and external partners. Participants gained insights into the requirements and expectations for completing each stage of the grant management process effectively.

Reconciliation, Tracking, and Performance Measurement: Participants learned essential skills related to reconciling grant expenditures, tracking financial transactions, and using performance measures to assess and improve the operations of each grant program. By leveraging performance data, participants were equipped to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of grant-funded initiatives.

Commenting on the significance of the training, Mr. Robert Gebauer stated, "Effective grant management is critical for ensuring the success and sustainability of health programs in the Pacific region. Through this training, participants have gained valuable insights and skills to optimize grant management processes, ultimately leading to improved health outcomes for communities across the Pacific."

Republic of Marshall Islands Cancer Coalition (RCC) Launches Training Event to Combat Cancer Epidemic


Marshall Islands, May 16, 2024 – Today marks a pivotal moment in the fight against cancer in the Marshall Islands as the Republic of the Marshall Islands Cancer Coalition (RCC) launches a comprehensive training event aimed at enhancing awareness, prevention, and treatment strategies across the nation.

Hosted under the esteemed patronage of the Secretary of Health & Human Services, Francyne Wase-Jacklick, the opening ceremony saw a poignant declaration of commitment to the cause. Secretary Wase-Jacklick, drawing from her personal experience as a daughter who witnessed her mother's battle with breast cancer, emphasized the critical need for prevention strategies. She stated, "As a daughter who witnessed my mother's brave struggle with breast cancer, I understand the profound impact this disease has on families. It is a personal mission for me to emphasize the importance of prevention. We must work tirelessly to ensure that our daughters, like my Little Barwa, are protected from the scourge of these diseases."

Her impassioned statement resonated deeply with attendees, igniting a shared resolve to prioritize prevention efforts to safeguard future generations.
The training event, organized in alignment with the RMI Cancer Plan 2022-2027, is a collaborative effort involving healthcare professionals, policymakers, community leaders, and advocates. Participants will engage in workshops, seminars, and interactive sessions designed to equip them with the latest knowledge and tools to combat the cancer epidemic effectively.

Republic of the Marshall Islands (RMI) Health Ministry Hosts Two-Day RMNCAH Policy Validation Meeting


Majuro, Republic of the Marshall Islands, 15 May 2024 – The RMI MOHHS successfully launched the Reproductive Maternal, Newborn, Child, and Adolescent Health (RMNCAH) Policy Validation Meeting yesterday. This pivotal event, aligned with the National Health Mission (NHM) and Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 3, aims to enhance maternal and child health and improve survival rates across the nation.

The meeting brings together a diverse group of stakeholders, including representatives from government agencies, civil society organizations, and international partners. These participants collaborated to validate and refine the RMNCAH policy, ensuring it addresses the unique needs and challenges of the Marshall Islands.

Dr. Titilola Duro-Aino, UNFPA Chief of Health & Technical Advisor on Sexual and Reproductive Health, emphasized the United Nations Population Fund's (UNFPA) ongoing commitment to supporting the Marshall Islands in its sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) initiatives. "UNFPA remains dedicated to advancing SRHR and RMNCAH efforts in the Marshall Islands," stated Dr. Duro-Aino. "Our collaboration with local stakeholders is vital in ensuring that every woman, child, and adolescent has access to quality health services."

Throughout the meeting, participants engaged in in-depth discussions and workshops to review and validate the RMNCAH policy framework. Marshall Islands Medical Assistance Team (MI-MAT) Launches Week-Long Cache Training with WHO Support

 

Majuro, Marshall Islands – 13 May 2024 – The Marshall Islands Medical Assistance Team (MI-MAT) proudly announces the commencement of a week-long Cache Training, supported by the World Health Organization (WHO). This intensive training program brings together vital stakeholders including members from the Ministry of Health, the Marshall Islands Red Cross Society (MIRCS), and the Palau Medical Assistance Team (KLEMAT).

The training aims to equip MI-MAT with a comprehensive "cache" of emergency medical equipment and supplies, ensuring the team is self-sufficient and prepared for rapid deployment in response to emergencies. The cache will enable MI-MAT to provide immediate medical assistance, improving resilience and response capabilities within the Marshall Islands and the broader Pacific region.

Dr. Robert Maddison, Medical Chief of Staff, emphasized the significance of the training, stating, "This program is crucial for enhancing our emergency response infrastructure. With WHO's support and collaboration from our partners, we are strengthening our capacity to effectively manage and respond to health crises."

The Marshall Islands Red Cross Society and KLEMAT will play integral roles in the training, sharing their expertise and experiences to foster a collaborative and comprehensive learning environment. This partnership underscores a commitment to regional solidarity and mutual aid in times of disaster.

"Building a robust emergency response team is vital for our communities," remarked Rambo Phillip, MIRCS Disaster Response Coordinator. "Through this training, we are not only preparing our teams but also reinforcing the importance of coordination and cooperation in crisis situations."

The World Health Organization's support underscores the global importance of preparedness and the need for well-equipped and trained medical teams ready to deploy at a moment’s notice. Welcoming remarks were delivered by Honorable Ladie Jack, Mayor of Majuro Atoll Local Government, who extended wholehearted support for mental health and substance abuse initiatives within the region. Minister Kisino reaffirmed the theme "Kumiti Ejmour" - Health is a shared responsibility, underscoring the imperative of collective action in addressing behavioral health challenges.
