Majuro, MH – In a momentous event symbolizing resilience and collaboration, the Republic of the Marshall Islands (RMI) celebrated the christening and blessing of two sea ambulances and two mental health outreach vehicles. These vital assets were procured through arrangements with the United States Government, a testament to the enduring partnership between the two nations during the challenging times of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The ceremony, which took place on January 19, 2024 at the Ministry of Works, Infrastructure, and Utilities ground and dock, was graced by esteemed dignitaries representing both the RMI and the United States Government. The Minister of Health for the Republic of the Marshall Islands, the honorable Ota Kisino, spoke passionately on behalf of the RMI government, expressing gratitude for the support received in bolstering the nation's healthcare and emergency response capabilities.

Chargé d'Affaires (CDA) Henry Hand, representing the United States Government, echoed sentiments of solidarity and shared commitment to health and well-being. The collaboration showcased the strength of international cooperation in addressing global challenges, with a particular focus on healthcare infrastructure and emergency services.

The christening ceremony was a solemn affair, conducted by Pastor Nowel Delis, who invoked blessings upon the sea ambulances and mental health outreach vehicles. The spiritual dedication marked the beginning of a new chapter in the RMI's efforts to enhance healthcare accessibility and emergency response capacity.

Adding a touch of tradition, Mrs. Lina Lucy Kisino, accompanied by Hospital Administrator Darlene Korok, performed the cultural or ritual breaking of champagne on the boats. This symbolic act not only celebrated the launch of these essential vehicles but also paid homage to the rich cultural heritage of the Marshall Islands.

The newly procured sea ambulances and mental health outreach vehicles represent a significant stride in the Republic of the Marshall Islands' ongoing efforts to strengthen its healthcare infrastructure. "Marking the Long-Awaited Moment: Grand Unveiling of the Ajeltake Health Center”

The Ministry of Health and Human Services marked a significant milestone with the official opening of the much-anticipated health dispensary in Ajeltake. The auspicious occasion commenced with a blessing and christening ceremony, featuring a heartfelt prayer by a respected rev. Marshall Langidrik.

Irooj Sam Joash, representing Leiroij Maria Joash, expressed gratitude for the achievement in a welcoming remark. He conveyed his mother's appreciation for the establishment of the health dispensary in Ajeltake and extended recognition to those who played a pivotal role, including Hon. Minister Kalani Kaneko, Hon. Minister Tony Muller, Hon. Senator David Kramer, and Hon. Speaker Branson Wase. Special mentions were also made to the dedicated MoHHS staff and management, as well as Ajeltake councilman, Mr. Boaz Lamdrik.

Hon. Ladie N. Jack, the Majuro Mayor, shared special remarks, commending the collective efforts of attendees, including Leiroij Maria's proxy, Irooj Sam Joash, Majuro Senators, MoHHS staff, and Ajeltake's councilman, Mr. Boaz Lamdrik. Mayor Jack praised Mr. Lamdrik's commitment and dedication to realizing the dream of having a clinic in Ajeltake.

The Minister of Health, Hon. Minister Ota Kisino, delivered keynote remarks, expressing gratitude and pride for the collaborative efforts that led to the success of the project. Minister Kisino acknowledged the support from the Majuro Local Government and the Immunization Department, emphasizing the significance of national and international partnerships in enhancing community well-being.

The ribbon-cutting ceremony was performed by Mrs. Lucy Kisino, Irooj Sam Joash, and First Lady Mrs. Ritok Jack. Senator David Kramer expressed appreciation for the accomplished mission, highlighting it as one of many initiatives for the benefit of the people of Majuro.

Closing the event, Ajeltake councilman, Mr. Boaz Lamdrik, expressed deep gratitude for the project, detailing the patience and perseverance required throughout the nearly eight-year journey. Despite challenges and unforeseen circumstances, Mr. Lamdrik affirmed that the long wait was worthwhile, proudly declaring, "Ajeltake finally has a Health Clinic."

MINISTRY OF HEALTH & HUMAN SERVICES (MOHHS) EMBARKS ON MINISTERIAL LEADERSHIP MONITORING AND EVALUATION (M&E) TRIP TO EBEYE HOSPITAL

Ebeye, Marshall Islands, 10 January 2024 — Secretary of Health Francyne Wase-Jacklick recently led a Ministerial Leadership Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) trip to Ebeye Hospital, organized by the Ministry’s Leadership Team (MLT). The primary goal of this initiative was to strengthen collaboration, discuss program updates, address communication challenges, and outline work plans to commence the year on a positive note.

During the visit, a constructive meeting was conducted with the heads of departments at Ebeye Hospital. The session provided a platform for open discussions, with everyone recognizing positive changes implemented in recent months. Notable improvements included creating a healthier working environment and enhancing departmental requests turnaround time, both of which contributed to the overall efficiency of the hospital.

Secretary Wase-Jacklick took the opportunity to engage in sideline conversations with patients during her visit. Patients shared their observations, expressing appreciation for the positive changes they have experienced. The hospital was noted to be much cleaner, and the functionality of air conditioning units has significantly improved, ensuring that patients no longer feel uncomfortably hot during their stay.

The Ministerial Leadership Monitoring and Evaluation trip reaffirmed the MOHHS's commitment to proactive measures for continuous improvement in healthcare services. Secretary Francyne Wase-Jacklick commended the efforts of the entire Ebeye Hospital team, acknowledging their dedication to creating a more conducive and efficient healthcare environment for both staff and patients.

One of the highlights of the M&E trip was the Staff Appreciation Gala, where the MOHHS team joined in recognizing the dedicated service of Ebeye Hospital staff. The gala celebrated the commitment of individuals who have served for 20 years, 30 years, 40 years, and an impressive 50 years, exemplifying their unwavering dedication to healthcare in the Marshall Islands.

Awards were presented in various categories to acknowledge the outstanding contributions of staff members. The Innovation Awards, Best Collaborator, and Best Service Delivery in clinical and non-clinical categories were among the accolades bestowed upon deserving individuals, recognized by their peers for their exceptional work.
Additionally, the gala featured Legacy Awards, honoring pioneer health workers who have made enduring contributions to the healthcare landscape. Two distinguished awards were presented: the Late Dr. Maidher Kabua Legacy Award and the Late Dr. Tregar Ishoda Legacy Award. These awards pay tribute to the lasting impact and significant contributions of these individuals, ensuring their legacies continue to inspire current and future generations.

Secretary Wase-Jacklick expressed her gratitude to Acting Deputy Secretary, Dr. Dustin Bantol & the entire Ebeye Hospital team for their hard work and dedication. OFFICIAL OPENING OF THE 2ND MICRONESIAN MINISTERS FOR WOMEN’S CONFERENCE 2024 IN NAURU


Republic of Nauru - April 16, 2024 - Today, with a shared commitment to advancing gender equality and women’s empowerment, the 2nd Micronesian Ministers for Women’s Conference 2024 commences in Nauru, heralding a pivotal moment for collaboration and action across the Micronesian region.

Led by President Envoy for Women and Children and Senator for Jaluit Atoll, Honorable Daisy Alik-Momotaro, the esteemed delegation includes representatives from the Ministry of Internal and Cultural Affairs (MoCIA), led by Secretary Brenda, and the Ministry of Health & Human Services, led by Mrs. Francyne Wase-Jacklick, along with distinguished figures such as Lina Lucy Kisino, President of Mejerik Club, and Lizabeth Enne, Coordinator of Women United Together Marshall Islands (WUTMI).

The official opening ceremony witnessed the honorable presence of His Excellency Hon. Daisy Momotaro provided critical intervention and support on behalf of the Republic of the Marshall Islands (RMI), underscoring the region’s collective commitment to advancing gender equality.

Looking ahead, the outcomes of this conference will serve as a cornerstone for the forthcoming 15th Triennial Women’s Conference, slated to take place from July 18th to 26th, 2024, with the Marshall Islands assuming the hosting duties. Moreover, a two-day Young Women’s Conference preceding the main event will amplify the voices and perspectives of young women, reflecting the inclusive and forward-thinking approach of the Micronesian region towards nurturing future leaders.

Ministry of Health & Human Services Hosts Inaugural Workshop to Accelerate Multi-Sectoral High Impact Nutrition Initiatives in the Marshall Islands

 

19 March 2024 – The Ministry of Health and Human Services (MOHHS), in collaboration with the Early Childhood Development Project (ECD) and UNICEF, successfully convened the first Accelerating Multi-Sectoral High Impact Nutrition Initiative (HINI) Workshop from March 19th to March 21st, 2024. This landmark event brought together government ministries, civil society organizations, and development partners for three days of intensive deliberations aimed at advancing high impact nutrition interventions in the Marshall Islands.

The HINI Workshop provided a vital platform for stakeholders to engage in constructive dialogue, knowledge sharing, and strategic planning to address the pressing issue of malnutrition. Participants had the opportunity to draw upon lessons learned from previous HINI implementations in diverse settings, enriching discussions and informing future strategies tailored to the unique context of the Marshall Islands.

Key highlights of the workshop include:

Multi-Sectoral Engagement: Representatives from government ministries, civil society organizations, and development partners actively participated in discussions, demonstrating a shared commitment to collaborative action in addressing the triple burden of malnutrition.

Reflection and Learning: Participants engaged in reflective exercises to assess the effectiveness of past HINI interventions and identify areas for improvement. Lessons gleaned from these reflections will guide future initiatives and ensure greater impact in combating malnutrition.

Sector-Specific Planning: The workshop facilitated sector-specific planning sessions aimed at accelerating government efforts to improve nutrition outcomes. By aligning interventions with the priorities and capacities of different sectors, stakeholders developed targeted strategies to address malnutrition comprehensively.
