OFFICIAL OPENING OF THE 2ND MICRONESIAN MINISTERS FOR WOMEN’S CONFERENCE 2024 IN NAURU
Republic of Nauru - April 16, 2024 - Today, with a shared commitment to advancing gender equality and women’s empowerment, the 2nd Micronesian Ministers for Women’s Conference 2024 commences in Nauru, heralding a pivotal moment for collaboration and action across the Micronesian region.
Led by President Envoy for Women and Children and Senator for Jaluit Atoll, Honorable Daisy Alik-Momotaro, the esteemed delegation includes representatives from the Ministry of Internal and Cultural Affairs (MoCIA), led by Secretary Brenda, and the Ministry of Health & Human Services, led by Mrs. Francyne Wase-Jacklick, along with distinguished figures such as Lina Lucy Kisino, President of Mejerik Club, and Lizabeth Enne, Coordinator of Women United Together Marshall Islands (WUTMI).
The official opening ceremony witnessed the honorable presence of His Excellency Hon. David Adeang MP, President of Nauru, alongside esteemed guests including Pastor Jezza Agadio, Miss Nauru Rosita Rokobuli, and Mereseini Vuniwaqa from Crop Support - SPC HRSD. A highlight of the ceremony was the impactful Key Note Address delivered by Minister for Women’s and Social Development Affairs (WASDA), Hon. Charmaine Eraidinomo Scotty, setting the stage for substantive discussions and collaborative efforts.
Key themes for the first day of deliberations are centered on the Gender Equality Framework, Women’s Economic Empowerment (WEE), and the dynamic landscape of evolving market spaces, with a special focus on harnessing culture as a catalyst for change within the sub-region. Notably, Hon. Daisy Momotaro provided critical intervention and support on behalf of the Republic of the Marshall Islands (RMI), underscoring the region’s collective commitment to advancing gender equality.
Looking ahead, the outcomes of this conference will serve as a cornerstone for the forthcoming 15th Triennial Women’s Conference, slated to take place from July 18th to 26th, 2024, with the Marshall Islands assuming the hosting duties. Moreover, a two-day Young Women’s Conference preceding the main event will amplify the voices and perspectives of young women, reflecting the inclusive and forward-thinking approach of the Micronesian region towards nurturing future leaders.
