19 March 2024 – The Pacific Island Health Officers Association (PIHOA) is pleased to announce the successful completion of a Grant Management Training session for Ministry of Health Management officials, facilitated by consultant Mr. Robert Gebauer. The two-day training, held on March 18th and 19th, 2024, aimed to enhance the capacity of Ministry of Health staff in effectively managing grants to support health programs across the Pacific region.
During the training, participants engaged in a series of interactive sessions designed to strengthen their understanding of grant management processes and best practices. Key activities included:
Mapping out the Current Grant Management Process: Participants worked collaboratively to map out the existing grant management processes for each health program, identifying internal workflows and stakeholders involved in the process.
Introducing Stakeholders and Understanding Requirements: The training provided an opportunity for participants to familiarize themselves with all players involved in the grant management process, including internal staff and external partners. Participants gained insights into the requirements and expectations for completing each stage of the grant management process effectively.
Reconciliation, Tracking, and Performance Measurement: Participants learned essential skills related to reconciling grant expenditures, tracking financial transactions, and using performance measures to assess and improve the operations of each grant program. By leveraging performance data, participants were equipped to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of grant-funded initiatives.
Commenting on the significance of the training, Mr. Robert Gebauer stated, "Effective grant management is critical for ensuring the success and sustainability of health programs in the Pacific region. Through this training, participants have gained valuable insights and skills to optimize grant management processes, ultimately leading to improved health outcomes for communities across the Pacific."
