19 March 2024 – The Ministry of Health and Human Services (MOHHS), in collaboration with the Early Childhood Development Project (ECD) and UNICEF, successfully convened the first Accelerating Multi-Sectoral High Impact Nutrition Initiative (HINI) Workshop from March 19th to March 21st, 2024. This landmark event brought together government ministries, civil society organizations, and development partners for three days of intensive deliberations aimed at advancing high impact nutrition interventions in the Marshall Islands.
The HINI Workshop provided a vital platform for stakeholders to engage in constructive dialogue, knowledge sharing, and strategic planning to address the pressing issue of malnutrition. Participants had the opportunity to draw upon lessons learned from previous HINI implementations in diverse settings, enriching discussions and informing future strategies tailored to the unique context of the Marshall Islands.
Key highlights of the workshop include:
Multi-Sectoral Engagement: Representatives from government ministries, civil society organizations, and development partners actively participated in discussions, demonstrating a shared commitment to collaborative action in addressing the triple burden of malnutrition.
Reflection and Learning: Participants engaged in reflective exercises to assess the effectiveness of past HINI interventions and identify areas for improvement. Lessons gleaned from these reflections will guide future initiatives and ensure greater impact in combating malnutrition.
Sector-Specific Planning: The workshop facilitated sector-specific planning sessions aimed at accelerating government efforts to improve nutrition outcomes. By aligning interventions with the priorities and capacities of different sectors, stakeholders developed targeted strategies to address malnutrition comprehensively.
Secretary of Health & Human Services, Francyne Wase-Jacklick, of MOHHS, emphasized the significance of the workshop, stating, "The inaugural Accelerating Multi-Sectoral HINI Workshop marks a pivotal moment in our collective journey towards improving nutrition outcomes in the Marshall Islands. By fostering collaboration and knowledge exchange, we are laying the groundwork for sustainable, evidence-based interventions that will positively impact the health and well-being of our communities."
The Ministry of Health and Human Services extends its gratitude to all participants especially Ministry of Natural Resources & Commerce (NRC), Public School System (PSS), Wellness Center, Women United Together Marshall Islands (WUTMI), Ministry of Culture & Internal Affairs (MoCIA), Marshall Islands Epidemiological Initiatives (MIEPI) for their unwavering commitment to advancing nutrition outcomes in the Marshall Islands.
